Prototype Engineer

We are looking for a prototype engineer who is highly motivated to work in the growing field of quantum technology. The candidate will interface with scientists in a small team to develop, engineer and build opto-mechanical structures and components required to progress cold atom quantum devices from demonstrators operating within a laboratory environment to industrial and space-based platforms. The candidate must have permission to work in the UK and be able to travel to the US and throughout Europe.

As part of a multi-disciplinary team, and a modern engineering department, this role involves the building and assembly mechanical components for testing and prototyping, as well for use in full production. Training will be given to the successful candidate, as our machines are quite niche. However, a basic level of engineering knowledge is essential. Enhanced or laboratory based experienced within in an R&D environment would be very useful.



– B.Sc. Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent level related qualification
– advanced degrees will also be considered

Required skills:

– experience with mechanical CAD software (Solidworks/Inventor)
– effective problem solver
– strong writing and communication skills
– computer/technology literacy

Desirable skills:
– hardware prototyping experience
– workshop skills
– interest in learning new skills
– 3D printing experience
– software development experience (python)
– self-motivation
