Boulder Project Manager

ColdQuanta seeks a project manager (PM) to manage and support government-funded, R&D projects led by ColdQuanta. The candidate will  be responsible for managing multi-disciplinary scientific and engineering teams from ColdQuanta, and sometimes government research labs, and/or other private companies. The ideal candidate will possess leadership qualities and skills that motivate project team members to drive both this project and others to success. The candidate will represent the company and project’s interests vis à vis various government agencies. The candidate must be willing to travel regularly within the US. THe candidate will be expected to jump into various projects as required by the company. This position would not be suitable for candidates with IT backgrounds nor candidates without an engineering or scientific undergraduate degree.  The ideal candidate would understand the constraints of a small business and be willing to pitch in whenever needed. As the employee would work primarily on government contracts, only US citizens or green card holders should apply.

Principal Responsibilities:

Prepare schedules and budgets in collaboration with PIs and stakeholders across teams

Establish work plans and staffing for each phase of the project, and arrange for assignment of project personnel

Confer with project staff to develop work plans, assign duties and responsibilities, and determine scope of authority

Direct and coordinate activities of project personnel to keep the project on-schedule and within budget

Review status reports prepared by project personnel and modify schedules or plans as required

Assess and manage the performance of subcontractors

Forecast future work schedule and spending through project completion

Identify key challenges to successful on-time, on-budget project execution

Devise and implement risk mitigation strategies

Prepare project reports for management, client, or others

Support the compilation of project resource utilization into company- wide forecasts

Participate in developing and writing statements of work (SOWs) and responses to RFPs

Run project update meetings with both technical and non-technical project staff

Confer with project personnel to provide technical advice and to resolve problems

Coordinate project activities with activities of governmental agencies

Work with other staff members to coordinate critical dates and scheduling among all company projects

Help develop lessons learned and share innovations resulting from projects

Competencies:

Demonstrated expertise in project management for hardware-intensive R&D

Expert-level schedule and budget tracking with MS Project and Excel

Strong interpersonal skills for effectively managing labor resources

Excellent organizational skills

Applicants should thrive in a dynamic small business environment

Experience with U.S. Government contract budgeting and cost reporting

Requirements:

U.S. Government contracts require applicants to be U.S. citizens or permanent residents

Experience with U.S. Government contract budgeting and cost reporting

Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university in Engineering or Physics; and four to seven years project management experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience
